Tyler, Texas (Rose Capital Of America)
From humble beginnings 150 years ago on a piece of high ground that is now the town square, Tyler has grown to be the largest community in East Texas. Boasting an MSA population of over 190,000, Tyler offers the cultural diversity, quality education, health care, and recreational opportunities of a large city with the hometown friendliness and quality of life of a small community.
Tyler offers many reasons to come visit and many more to stay. The springtime finds Tyler covered in the vivid colors created by the azaleas, dogwoods, and spring flowers. The arrival of the flowers are celebrated by the annual Azalea and Spring Flower Trailsin March and April. After the azaleas peak, then the roses begin their annual visit to bear proof that Tyler is "The Rose Capital of America". The roses say goodbye in October with an encore performance during the Texas Rose Festival, the third weekend of October.
Tyler offers a wide variety of educational opportunities. The Tyler Independent School District (Tyler ISD) which serves the community is rated 4A. In addition to Tyler ISD, private and parochial school systems offer complete pre-school to 12th grade programs. Tyler is also home to Tyler Junior College, Texas College, and the University of Texas at Tyler. These institutions offer undergraduate as well as masters degree programs.
Year round Tyler offers an excellent weekend getaway with over 20 antique shops, Tyler Market Center every third weekend of the month, and First Monday Trade Days in Canton, only thirty minutes away.
Whitehouse, TX
Whitehouse, Texas, in Smith county, is located six miles south of Tyler in a beautiful piney woods area west of Lake Tyler in East Texas and 99 miles SE of Dallas, Texas. The city is included in the Tyler metropolitan area.
Whitehouse had a median family income of $54,393.
There are about 4000 students being educated in our WISD district each day, ranging from early childhood to twelfth grade, on six campuses. We employ approximately 485 staff members, including about 240 certified teachers and were recently named by the Texas Education Agency as an academically acceptable district.

In July, 2009, the Texas Education Agency rated LISD as a "Recognized" district. Four of the district's campuses (Lindale Primary School, Velma Penny Elementary School, E.J. Moss Intermediate School and Lindale High School) were rated "Exemplary," the highest rating for Texas schools. Lindale Junior High School was rated "Recognized."
Lindale High School is the only 3A, 4A or 5A high school in the TEA’s Region VII to receive an "Exemplary" nod. Region VII covers most of East Texas.
